How do you see Father God?
Do you see Him as gracious and ever present or do you see Him as far away and every once in a while He visits? With the social issues at hand; single parents, blended families, divorce, and 25 million fatherless children, the enemy has done a great job at skewing the perception of what a father truly is. If we don’t have the proper perception of God’s gracious fatherly love we will have a hard time praying to Him truly believing He will do the things He has promised.
Matthew 7:7-11 says:
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
9 “Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! (NIV)
Jesus is showing in the above scripture that our understanding of relationship has all to do with our ability to receive from God. People of Jesus day saw God as a judge, who was far away. Jesus was constantly revealing the intense, passionate, fatherly love God had toward people. So intense was the Father God’s love that He let His son die carrying our sin that separated us from His love.
I personally was healed of a wrong perception of God. If you are struggling with God’s love for you, ask Him to heal you. I’ll write more about that tomorrow!
